Indian Cooking Recipe: Steam Rice Cakes with Mussels
The following are the instructions on how to cook delicious Indian food: Steam Rice Cakes with Mussels
Ingredients:
1. Fresh mussels (Fresh water bivalve mollusk) 12
2. Boiled rice 1/2 kg
3. Grated coconut, small, 1
4. Jeera 1 tsp
5. Small Onion
6. Chilli powder 2 tbsps
7. Turmeric powder 2 tsps
8. Oil for deep frying
9. Salt to taste


Method of Preparation:
Thoroughly scrub and clean the shells in hot and cold water. Separate the shells with a sharp knife and strain the muddy water inside, if any, and remove the flesh. Keep the shells aside. Soak rice in hot water for 6 to 8 hours, grind to a coarse paste along with mussels, coconut, onion, jeera. Make small balls of the size of the shells and fill inside the shells. Steam in an idli cooker for 10 minutes. Make a paste of chilli powder, turmeric powder and salt. Separate the appams from the shells dip in the chilli, turmeric paste and deep fry in oil one by one serve hot. It can be preserved for 2 days.
