Semya Idli Recipe
Indian Cooking Recipe: Semya Idli
The following are the instructions on how to cook delicious Indian food: Semya Idli
Ingredients:
1. 1 ½ cup semya (Vermicelli)
2. 1 cup rava (Sooji or Semolina)
3. 2 cups sour curd
4. 1 medium onion (chopped finely)
5. 2-3 green chillies, sliced finely – seeds removed
6. Curry Leaves approx. 1 tbsp, crushed
7. 1 small piece of ginger
8. Grated cashewnuts, broken up, 1 ½ - 2 tbsps
8. Plums (Kishmish) – 1 ½ - 2 tbsps
9. 1 ½ tbsps channa dal
10. Baking powder ¼ tsp
11. Salt to taste
12. 2-3 tbsps Oil
13. Water if necessary


Method of Preparation:
Soak the channa dal for 1 hour, wash and drain water, keep aside. Fry the rava and semya separately in 2 tbsps oil till nice and brown – keep aside for cooling. Heat the remaining oil and fry the chopped onions, green chillies, curry leaves, till onions are light brown. Now add the channa dal and fry, when the dal is becoming brown add the cashewnuts and fry.

When cashewnuts are becoming brown, add the Plums and fry – when they swell remove from flame- let it cool. Beat the curds, add the baking powder, fried rava and semya, the fried onion mixture and stir nicely, add salt, mix once again and keep. Now grease the idly trays and pour the batter into each mould and steam in the idli Vessel or cooker for 8-10 Mins. After 8-10 Mins, remove the vessel from flame and let it cool for a few mins. Remove the idlies and serve with coconut chutney, sambar, or any gravy dish. This dish could be eaten for breakfast or for tea time.
